Hi Friend,

I am so glad you found my website. I have always been into fitness and health and have played tennis, squash, ten-pin bowling and enjoyed bike riding plus I was a freestyle and backstroke swimming champion in my younger days.

I must admit my favourite sport of all is motor racing, especially Midget speedcars. I also raced No 27 Midget speedcar at Claremont Speedway for a number of seasons. It was a magic speedcar and I still have it packed away in my father’s shed.

I learned the hard way how important my fitness and health is as I have suffered a number of injuries over the years and especially knee problems. Having had 16 operations and still getting no relief from pain, I made the decision to exercise every day to strengthen my legs and knees. I have been left with knees that collapse on me so I need walking aids for added support. I walk at least 3 kilometres per day along the beach and find that the soft sand not only cushions the effect of the walking, but builds up leg muscles and it is also a good respiratory exercise. Of course, my dog Jasper benefits as well. .

I ended up having my left leg in plaster for 12 months and then after the removal of the plaster, I was hospitalised in traction for 12 months during which time I had daily physiotherapy and water exercises to strengthen my knee and leg. The biggest thing I had to deal with during this period was the severe pain which was debilitating in itself. I ended up being prescribed MS Contin for pain relief which then caused so many other side effects – it was like a domino effect.

I was unable to work, my wife supported me and basically I was just existing for some years. Perhaps I came to my senses through the fog of the MS Contin or perhaps my wife’s nagging and pleading paid off, but I made a conscientious effort to stop taking the MS Contin and try to deal with the constant pain. I am not going to say it was easy, because unfortunately it wasn’t but I persisted on strong pain killers like Neurophen and gradually weaned myself off them and took Panadol Forte then normal Panadol and finally I was taking no drugs at all, nothing.

I read up on ways to counter-act pain, how “mind over matter” plays a huge role in our physical well being and the importance of exercise for maintaining our fitness and health.

I take fish oil capsules daily as this helps to alleviate the pain and discomfort of arthritis which develops when one has had an injury.

I hope you benefit from the easy simple exercises I have outlined throughout this website. By keeping active and exercising every day, we seniors can look forward to a long and healthy lifestyle.

Best wishes,

Harry Field
